The Mark II British transport began to be used in the weeks after the Battle of Messines once the need for the faster Mk II Light Tank was required. It was seen as a necessary improvement to have a fast, mobile tank. This led to the thought of putting drawbridge style doors on the outside and using these tanks as transports.
