The land that Armbraid is located is a strange place, with a magic that can take on a mind of its own. Problems with birds eating the crops led the people to create Scarecrows, but sometimes when the time is right, these Un-living objects become Animated, almost sentient. 

However the process of becoming Animated, doe not create a caring creature, but one of anger and pain.
